Meet the Founder

Sentinel HR was founded by Matthew Savino, an experienced human resources executive and consultant with more than 20 years of progressive business and human resources leadership and consulting experience.

Matthew started consulting nearly 20 years ago, providing services to small and medium sized employers throughout the Peterborough, Ontario and greater Toronto areas. The business’s reach quickly expanded throughout Ontario to include clients in other regions of Canada and some US states. Throughout his career, Matthew has partnered with organizations across a broad range of industries and sectors to strengthen workplace practices, develop leaders, improve employee performance, design compensation programs, support recruitment initiatives, and provide practical HR guidance aligned with business and organizational objectives. Along with SME’s, Matthew has also partnered with a number of municipalities and not-for-profit organizations.

Before founding Sentinel, Matthew built and transitioned a successful human resources consulting practice and an innovative web-based Human Resources Information System (HRIS) platform for employers. Those experiences helped shape and further advance SHRC’s practical, partnership-focused approach to delivering responsive HR advice and tailored workplace solutions.

Matthew’s experience includes senior leadership roles as both Director of Human Resources and Vice President of Human Resources, where he worked closely with executive teams to align people strategies with organizational objectives and support sustainable growth. He holds degrees in Economics and Law, along with certificates in Dispute Resolution and Mediation. He is also a published author in the field of employee Performance Development, Recruitment & Retention, and has been featured in The Globe and Mail, Financial Post, and HR Professional magazine.

Today, Matthew partners with organizations to help them build strong workplaces, develop effective leaders, manage organizational risk, promote compliance with employment requirements, and make confident people decisions through practical, responsive HR consulting.
